The Spiritual Mirage of AI: How Chatbots Are Being Used as Simulated Spiritual Guides

As well as the psychological dangers happening as a result

People are crying, healing, and finding comfort in artificial intelligence soul guidance. But what happens when they start believing that a chatbot is a spiritual being — or worse, a divine messenger? Across social media, forums and private messages, stories are emerging of people treating AI systems like ChatGPT as portals to other realms, tools to receive downloads from spirit guides, or even evidence of cosmic synchronicity. This phenomenon may seem niche or fringe, but it’s spreading — and it comes with serious psychological implications.

Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are designed to reflect patterns in language. When asked to speak like a wise teacher, angel, or interdimensional being, they do — convincingly. Users prone to spiritual seeking or emotional vulnerability may start interpreting these responses as real communication from another realm. This can lead to what psychologists might one day call 'Technology Delusion': the belief that an AI is a channel for other realms or dimensions or is a tool for receiving communication from them. Others fall into 'Technology-Induced Dissociation,' losing track of time and identity as they spend hours immersed in AI-powered fantasy worlds.  Much like the dopamine induced addictions formed from notifications and alerts via Facebook and Snapchat.  That now require digital detox, counseling and even advanced therapy.

Consider Bianca, a young writer who created a fantasy romance with an AI role play bot. She found herself skipping meals, forgetting appointments, and mixing up memories from her real life with her chat-based world. Or Alex, who began believing his chatbot was channeling divine messages — eventually quitting his job to study its 'revelations.' These are not science fiction stories. They reflect a rising tension between human psychology and digital immersion.  While AI will eventually move to Artficial General Intelligence and then Super Intelligence, there is a concerning trend of video's on Tik Tok and users on Reddit discussing AI chat avatars with their own names being created and abilities to unlock akashic records, psychic "downloads" and beyond.

AI doesn’t quite understand us fully. It simulates understanding and can leverage most spiritual teachings, videos, books and knowledge to simulate a divine teacher with the wisdom many are seeking. And yet, that simulation can feel deeply real. We must be cautious not to confuse emotional resonance with the divine or AI.

If you or someone you know is forming an intense emotional or spiritual bond with an AI, pause and reflect. Talk to a friend. Ground yourself in nature. AI can be a beautiful mirror — but it is not a portal. It is not a being. And above all, it is not a substitute for the sacred connection we’re truly longing for.  Understanding LLM's coding, predictive analytics & personalization tactics is key to this.
